How to use WinSCP: A Popular SFTP and FTP client for Microsoft Windows.

WinSCP (Windows Secure Copy) is a free and open-source SFTP, FTP, WebDAV, Amazon S3 and SCP client for Microsoft Windows. Its main function is secure file transfer between a local and a remote computer. Beyond this, WinSCP offers basic file manager and file synchronization functionality. For secure transfers, it uses Secure Shell (SSH) and supports the SCP protocol in addition to SFTP.
WinSCP is based on the implementation of the SSH protocol from PuTTY and FTP protocol from FileZilla.
Below are the descriptive steps for logging in and access of your hosting account via WinSCP:
1. Open the WinSCP FTP Client, you will see a login screen. In the session section, where it indicates Host Name, enter the domain name, use port as 21 or the ssh port for your hosting account.
2. In the next box, enter the User name of your hosting account as well as the password. In the box across for the User Name, enter your password. Now click on Save. A pop-up will appear requesting you to name this session so that you can find the connection again easily.
3. Enter a name in the box that will help you remember what the connection was. Then click OK. You will be redirected back to the Login screen and on the right-hand window, you will see your session, with its new name listed. Make sure it is highlighted, and click on the Login button at the bottom. That will enable you to access your hosting account via FTP, using WinSCP. The session is also saved for later use, making it easy to Login again.
4. To Disconnect, go to the menu bar at the top. Click on Session. From the drop-down, click on Disconnect. You are now disconnected from the remote server. This ends this tutorial. You now know how to configure your web site to connect with a remote server in the FTP program WinSCP.
