How to Install WordPress on a Subdomain

In the previous tutorial, we covered how to install WordPress on an addon domain. In this guide, we will go through a step-by-step process of installing WordPress on your subdomain.

For more information on subdomains, this cPanel guide covers everything you need to know about creating, deleting, and redirecting subdomains on your cPanel.

Step 1

Create a subdomain using cPanel

First, you need to create the subdomain in cPanel. To do this, follow these steps:

  • Log in to cPanel.
  • Click Subdomains in the Domains section of the cPanel home screen.
  • Under Create a Subdomain, type the subdomain in the text box and click Create.

Step 2

Install WordPress using Softaculous

After you create the subdomain, you can now install WordPress.

Follow these steps;

  • Scroll down to the Software section of the cPanel and click on the Softaculous Apps Installer icon.
  • Type WordPress in the text box and press Enter.
  • Click Install for the WordPress installation page to appear.
  • In the Choose Domain drop-down menu, select the subdomain that you created.
  • Leave the In Directory text box blank.
  • Fill in your website’s name, password and select the preferred language.
  • Under Advanced settings, you can configure the backup options and automatic updates.
  • Select a WordPress theme and click on Install.
  • Review the installation options and settings, and then click Install.
  • Softaculous will install WordPress and provide a link you can use to visit your new WordPress Dashboard and configuration options.

You can now use your web browser to visit the subdomain you created to see the WordPress Dashboard and start creating content for your subdomain.
