How to scan malware files via cPanel
The cPanel comes with an inbuilt virus scanner. This article contains steps on how to scan your cPanel.
Why should I scan my cPanel? We advise our clients to scan their cPanel for any malicious files and scripts. This helps in detecting web vulnerabilities. The scan should be done regularly.
cPanel: (Also known as a control panel) is a web hosting control panel that provides a graphical interface and automation tools designed to simplify the process of hosting a web site.
Step 1: Login to cPanel with your cPanel username & Password.
Step 2: In the Advanced section, select Virus scanner.
Step 3: Select which part of your account you want to scan.Options:
- the mail folder (/username/mail/)
- the Entire Home Directory (The entire hosting account)
- the Entire Public Webspace (the public_html folder)
- the Entire Public FTP space (the public_ftp folder)
Step 4: The Scan.
During the scan, you will see the number of files scanned and total files in the directory. You can also see the amount of space scanned and the space left to scan.
You notice there is an infected file box below the scan bar. The infected or malicious files will be listed there.
Step 5: Virus detected.
Proceed with the clean-up once the scan is complete if there is any virus detected. You will receive a message when the clean-up is complete.
